Overview and scope

This summary explains how personal information may be collected and used in connection with Panasonic-branded television sales, registration, warranty administration, customer support, promotions, websites and connected television functions in the UK and Ireland. It does not apply to Panasonic cameras, home appliances, personal-care products, business products or unrelated Panasonic services.

1. Who is responsible for personal information

·      For the television activities covered by this summary, METZ DISPLAY POLSKA SP. Z O.O. (‘MDP’, ‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’) is responsible for personal information where it determines why and how that information is processed.

·      MDP is part of the Skyworth group and operates within Skyworth’s European television business. Panasonic remains the owner/licensor of the Panasonic brand and continues to contribute technical expertise, quality assurance and after-sales support under the television-business partnership.

·      Where a Panasonic entity, retailer, service centre, application provider or other partner determines its own purposes and means of processing, that organisation is responsible for its processing and may provide a separate privacy notice.

2. Meaning of personal information

Personal information means information relating to an identified or identifiable individual. It may include identity and contact details, photographs, payment-related information, television model and serial number, purchase and warranty information, device and online identifiers, diagnostic information, location information, cookies and IP addresses. Information that does not identify a person by itself may still be personal information when combined with other information.

3. Information we may collect

Information provided directly

·      Identity and contact details, such as name, email address, telephone number, postal address, country of residence and, where an account is offered, login credentials.

·      Order, delivery, invoicing and payment-status information needed to fulfil purchases. Where a payment provider is used, it may receive payment-card details directly and will provide its own privacy information.

·      Television registration and warranty information, including model, serial number, retailer, proof of purchase, purchase date, warranty claims and repair history.

·      Customer-service communications, complaint and repair records, television diagnostics and, where legally permitted and disclosed, call or chat recordings.

·      Promotion, competition, event, survey, product-review, newsletter and marketing-preference information, where those activities are actually offered.

Information generated through use of services

·      Device, browser, network and online identifiers, including IP address, cookie identifiers, television identifiers, operating-system or firmware version and connection information.

·      Website interaction, connected-TV usage, fault, performance, security and diagnostic information, only to the extent collected by the relevant service.

·      Information generated through firmware updates, product-support tools, applications, websites or connected-TV functions. Where a product or service collects additional data, the relevant interface or service information will provide further details.

Information from third parties

·      Retailers, distributors, delivery providers and authorised service centres where information is needed for fulfilment, support, repair or warranty services.

·      Panasonic entities or prior service operators where information is lawfully transferred for continuity of warranty, customer support or other requested services.

·      Public sources, fraud-prevention providers and social-networking services, but only where relevant to a service chosen by the individual.

4. Legal grounds for processing

·      Performance of a contract or steps requested before entering a contract, including sales, delivery, warranty and support.

·      Compliance with legal obligations, including consumer, tax, accounting, product-safety and regulatory requirements.

·      Our legitimate interests, such as operating and securing services, preventing fraud, improving products and handling customer enquiries, where not overridden by individual rights.

·      Consent, where required for marketing, optional cookies, recordings or optional connected features; consent can be withdrawn at any time.

·      Protection of vital interests or the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims, where applicable.

5. How personal information is used

·      Process television purchases, arrange delivery and provide requested products or services.

·      Register televisions and administer warranties, repairs, recalls, safety notices, promotions and customer support.

·      Operate accounts, websites, applications and connected-TV functions that the customer chooses to use.

·      Diagnose faults, deliver firmware or security updates, maintain service security and improve television performance and customer experience.

·      Analyse website and product usage and prepare aggregated statistics, subject to applicable consent requirements.

·      Send marketing communications and personalise content only in accordance with consent, preferences and applicable law.

·      Prevent fraud, handle complaints, keep business records and comply with legal, regulatory and product-safety obligations.

·      The precise information collected depends on the product or service used. Where a specific application or connected feature collects additional information, further information should be presented through that product or service.

6. Disclosure and international transfers

We may disclose personal information to relevant Skyworth group companies, Panasonic entities involved in quality assurance or after-sales support, retailers, distributors, authorised repair centres, logistics and payment providers, hosting and IT providers, marketing and analytics providers, professional advisers, regulators and authorities, where there is a valid purpose and legal basis. Service providers acting on our instructions may use the information only to provide the agreed services and must protect it appropriately.

Personal information may be processed in the UK, the European Economic Area and other countries where relevant group companies or suppliers operate. Where personal information is transferred to a country that is not recognised as providing an adequate level of protection, we use appropriate contractual or other safeguards required by applicable data-protection law. Individuals may contact us for further information about applicable safeguards.

7. Security

·      We use proportionate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against accidental or unlawful loss, alteration, disclosure or access.

·      These measures may include access controls, authentication, encryption where appropriate, logging, backup, vulnerability management and incident-response procedures.

·      Where a payment provider processes payment-card information, that provider is responsible for handling the information securely in accordance with its own privacy information.

·      No website, television, application, transmission method or wireless connection can be guaranteed completely secure.

·      Users are responsible for keeping account credentials confidential and for maintaining appropriate security on their home network and connected devices.

8. Individual rights

·      Access personal information and obtain information about its processing.

·      Request correction, completion, deletion or restriction where the legal requirements are met.

·      Object to processing based on legitimate interests and object at any time to direct marketing.

·      Withdraw consent without affecting processing carried out lawfully before withdrawal.

·      Request data portability where applicable and obtain information about relevant international-transfer safeguards.

·      Complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or the Irish Data Protection Commission, as applicable. Requests should be submitted using the controller contact details in section 16.

9. Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet applicable legal, accounting, warranty, product-safety, dispute-resolution and enforcement requirements. Retention periods therefore vary according to the data category and service. Information is deleted or anonymised when it is no longer required, unless continued retention is required by law.

10. Third-party links and services

Websites, applications and televisions may link to or integrate third-party services. Those services may act as independent controllers under their own privacy notices. When a user activates a material third-party service, the information presented by that service explains its processing practices.

11. Cookies

Websites and related services may use strictly necessary cookies and, with the required consent, analytics, preference or advertising technologies. Users can manage non-essential technologies through the cookie controls made available on the relevant website. Browser settings may also be used to reject or delete cookies, although some functions may then be unavailable.

12. Marketing choices

·      Marketing communications may be sent only by the entity named when the preference or consent is collected and in accordance with UK and Irish law.

·      Personal information will not be disclosed to third parties for their own direct marketing unless the individual has been clearly informed and a valid legal basis exists.

·      Individuals may opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link or the privacy contact in section 16. A limited suppression record may be retained to ensure the opt-out is respected.

13. Children's information

The services covered by this summary are intended for adults and are not designed to knowingly collect children’s personal information without an appropriate legal basis and, where required, parental or guardian authorisation. If unauthorised child data is identified, reasonable steps will be taken to delete it or prevent further use.

14. Changes to the notice

This notice may be updated to reflect changes in the television business, services, suppliers or law. Material changes will be communicated by an appropriate method, and renewed consent will be obtained where required. The effective date of this version appears below.

15. Business transition and legacy records

The Panasonic–Skyworth television-business partnership changes responsibility for certain European sales, marketing and logistics activities. Panasonic has stated that it will continue after-sales support for Panasonic televisions sold up to March 2026 and those available from April 2026. Where information must be shared between MDP, Skyworth and Panasonic to maintain warranty, support, product-safety or quality-assurance services, it will be used only for the relevant purposes and in accordance with applicable data-protection law.

16. Contact and further information

Privacy questions and requests to exercise data-protection rights may be sent to MDP at its registered office below. Where another organisation is responsible for a particular service or legacy record, we may direct the request to that organisation or provide the appropriate contact information.
